Print Glossary

spacerDie cutting is a method of using wooden dies or blocks with sharp steel rules in the shape of the desired pattern to cut various irregular shapes (labels, boxes, image shapes) either post press or in line. The cutting of these special sheets results in part of the sheet being excised. This is used to achieve visual and functional special effects in printed material, and is usually done on a relatively strong, heavy paper stock, though die-cutting is sometimes done on lighter weight papers.
